The Ecuadorian cacao “Nacional” is the genetic variety that comes from the first cacao trees ever domesticated by people. It is now a very rare form of cacao, as other varieties are used most often in global chocolate production. Nacional was first harvested in Ecuador more than 5,000 years ago.
This is a great tour for chocolate lovers and also for people who just want to check the countryside of Ecuador. We pick you up at your Hotel in Guayaquil and drive for 45 min – 1 hour to a small family-owned cocoa farm in the rural area. Here is where we walk through the plantations to learn everything about cocoa and after this, we go to make some chocolate right from the cocoa beans! This is a half-day tour that lasts an average of 4 hours.
